The 1st SubQjam just happens

The 1st SubQjam just happens

Love story and ghosts - are the main themes of the 1st Sub-Qjam. I consider two games that are posted on Twitter. Both games has a character from beyond the grave. It would be very interesting to compare them. The first is a story about a broken family, the other is a Victorian Christmas ghost story, I think both of them are interesting, but in a different way. The first is a slice of life, called Vacancy, exploration game, the second is some kind of mistery. The second game (first by date :-P) is named Ghosted, more inventive, but there is a little bug in it. You can decide which one is the better. But we some days left until the end of subQjam, so another game(s) can appear.

Night of Nights, EctoComp 2018 entry

Night of Nights, EctoComp 2018 entry

If I should choose only one game of this year's EctoComp, it would be this game, the Night of Nights. I think it's a very atmospheric and very unique game, it summons the feeling of Italian Festivals. There are some Italian words in it, which makes the reader imagine the world of the game better. It can be a sort of exploration game, but it's more than this, there are several conditions in the game, and has important role of the money, called tokens here. I think it's far the best game in the jam, the world, which is depicted by more tha 13000 words is just wonderful. The introductions of the characters are superb, there are colorful details from the clothings, looks, and feelings about them. There are more endings, I found one, which I pleased with for the second playthrough. It's a pity that I couldn't vote, because my game was also in the jam, in an other cathegory. I would give it a five, of course. It's a really good adventure game, thanks!

The Death of the Author - an online game

The Death of the Author - an online game

I'm so excited, like when I played my first Twine game, which I found somewhere on an indie blog. Indie authors are so inventive sometimes. This is a fairly short game, there is a couple of interesting things in it. It's a bit surreal, a bit horroristic, and has elements of a detecitve story. The title "Death of rhe Author" was Roland Barthes' invention, but it give opportunity to the writer - Jon Madge - to play a literally game, where the author is really, physically dead. We are in a house of this author, and has to survive the adventure among danger, modernist poems, and plums. Yes, plums, there are many in the story. I think I will read the poems once more, because I had very few time to them. Oh, the writer of the game has mentioned in his blog, there is a book about the story or the poems or both. The game was a very positive experience how to make a short game exciting.

Two IfComp games by eejitlikeme

Now, we are in IFComp's judging period. And EctoComp is also started. I would like to begin with this blog two reviews about eejitlikeme's IFComp games. I am not a fan type of person, but for me eejitlikeme is the absolute winner of IFComp. Both last year, and this year. Let's see the reviews:

Behind the Door

Two IfComp games by eejitlikeme

This was my favourite from last year's IFComp. I don't know Quest engine, but it was a fusion of parser and CYOA games as i can observe it. The story wasn't too overcomplicated, I liked it very much. It was a bit surreal, but it's okay. The Alice allusion wasn't bad, made a familiar atmosphere. The character of old man with the chess might have a deeper meaning. The twisty ending made me amazed, it worthed to play the game. When judging IFComp i gave You a 10, now i give you a 5. :-) My advice is not complicate things at the future either, just keep up the good work!

Dreamland

Two IfComp games by eejitlikeme

First it was a bit hard to me to find out what is the task in this game. It's a rather short, and maybe a bit surreal interactive experience. The game not as hard as it seems. It counts in the game that what you did before you go to bed. There is 1 really task in the game: to choose the correct book in the library. The correct book always depends on our choices before sleeing. Brilliant! The writer's last year's entry was better, but it's also done. One of the best games in this Year. I give it a 5.

As far as I know these two games were made by her. I am looking forward to play the author's other games. And now it's nearly Halloween, and EctoComp is just started in the morning, where I also submitted a game, named Deliver Until Dawn. It's a shitty little game about delivering newspapers in Halloween, encountering monsters, etc. I'd like to review the other EctoComp entries here, when the authors of the games will submit them.
